Tournament Report:
The Forbidden Locals

Yesterday concluded the Forbidden Locals, an experimental tournament that allowed the use of a single copy of one banned card, for the cost of 1 Point instead. The idea was met with nervous excitement, players were able to revisit some old favorites like Fairy Tail Snow, at the cost of being subjected to degenerate loops and omni-negates, notably the day 0 banned Red-Eyes Dragoon. Surprisingly, the most heinous of the forbidden realm did not make an appearance, but one in particular brought down the house. In a truly classical fashion, Impy representing Dragonmaid secured 1st place. The finals match against guiltygearxx's Orcusts, and all other replays from the Forbidden Locals can be found here.

What made you choose Dragonmaids for the tournament, and what were your tech choices?
I picked Dragonmaids because I used to Heavily play test Dragonmaids back in IGAS format, to the point one of the old admins made a meme about how often I would ask in #looking-for-games, and that's where I got my nickname "Post insert-next-set". I played test them to the point everybody knew me as the Dragonmaid guy and stopped dueling me because Sheou + House was so powerful. So, I picked Dragonmaids to relive the glory days of testing the deck.

Would you make any changes to the deck?
No, the deck worked just about as good as it could, every game I could "play the game" and work towards making Sheou + Backrow or play with the Rokket part of my deck vs whatever my opponent was setting up.
Are there any specific banned cards you were worried about playing against?
As for banned cards i was worried about, mostly Master Peace (The reason why I main decked Ogre and a Fusion Plant package), Boss Stage (Ogre + Set Rotation), Dark Dragoon (Kaijus in the side), And Galatea (Soul Release).
What was your favorite play from the tournament?
My favorite play of the event involved my favorite "extender" in my deck, Ruins of the Divine Dragon Lord. It was game 2 vs Prawns Mill rank 4 Snow deck, and he just forced me to negate with Sheou his Called by the Grave in order to save and revive my Chamber Dragonmaid. After he did so, he proceeded to make Exciton and clear both of our boards (Including Ruins) and putting us both into top deck mode. On my turn, I drew Boot Sector for turn, useless, so I passed. Prawns turn, he drew Hat Tricker and got in for 3000. I knew I had to find away around his Exciton on the next turn or Ii would lose. I would then top deck Skull Meister and add Tempest from banished to hand (Gold Sarcophagus). I pitched Tempest to add back Ruins, summoned Tempest from the grave, and punched over Hat Tricker. In main phase 2, I sent the Boot Sector for Ruins, summoned a token, and then link summoned Hieratic Spheres. And from there, I was able to bounce one of his monsters, summon Nurse from deck, resummon chamber and search Dragonmaid hospitality. With all of this card advantage, he was forced to Exciton again and pass, allowing for me to then snowball with Hospitality, reviving Nurse and then Chamber to victory.

Overall, what are your opinions about this particular format?

I really like the idea of this format. The whole 1 banned card at 1p lets everybody either play some of their old pet decks, or play with some cards that never got to interact with each other. Overall I found it to be very fun and I would love for it to be a bi-monthly event, because it help break up the post YTC slump people find themselves in (I hope it's not just me).
