Winter Champs 2022

What made you choose this deck for the tournament? What were your tech choices?

Did well with the deck in the January YTC so brought it to champs as well with some adjustments made. Tried to incorporate as many cards with burn on them as possible to synergize with Masquerade and Trickstars, but only really found playables in Ring of Destruction and Gravedigger's Trap Hole.

Would you make any changes to the deck?

Maybe some more tweaking with the ED, but the maindeck felt really solid. Wouldn't change anything in it if it weren't for the banlist putting the deck 1.5p over limit. Not sure what cuts to make, would probably have to be Sauge + Incredible Ecclesia / one of the of the Aluber/Candina dupes.

How did your tournament experience go? Any notable moments?

Just drew the cards I needed to not get snowballed out of the games. Especially in finals I got blessed with some absolute god hands. Lord knows I needed them since I played absolutely awfully in both games.

What about the upcoming format are you most excited for?

Exorsisters seem pretty cool, though I wish the maindeck monsters sucked just a little less. They could've atleast given them AN attack value, you know? D/D Gryphon is cool too, might lab D/D/D again. P.U.N.K. are pretty neat I guess, Dinomorphia too.

What made you choose this deck for the tournament? What were your tech choices?

I played the deck the previous tournament, and it worked very well, so I played it again. My tech choices were a Traptrix engine, this time a lot bigger than last time, and Predaplant Verte+Super Polymerization.

Would you make any changes to the deck?

The Deck is already very polished. The only changes I'd make would be to either replace Sauge de Fleur with an unlimited card, or replace the extra copy of Dark Factory for a 1/2p card, probably Torrential or Premature Burial. I'd also like to play a vanilla insect for the Gokipole pop, since it came up twice or so.

How did your tournament experience go? Any notable moments?

It was kinda boring. Every match but one ended 2-0, showing that there was usually a huge power gap between decks. I don't really have any notable moments, every game was pretty similar.

What about the upcoming format are you most excited for?

Illusion of Chaos is a card that I have been waiting since its reveal.

What made you choose this deck for the tournament? What were your tech choices?

Here we are, once again. Took a break for a couple months, just to come back and immediately top. Can't catch a break around here, can I? Well, I decided to run it back with an old favorite: Flip, or more specifically, Shaddoll Subterror Tindangle. I piloted this deck to a 2nd place finish last format, so in true boomer fashion, I changed basically nothing about the deck and ran it back, with the only noticeable change being the fact that I was siding an Unchained engine.

Would you make any changes to the deck?

Yes, absolutely. The deck is fun and can steamroll at times, don't get me wrong. However, it can be abysmally slow and cannot go 2nd at all, due to how Flip monsters function. I would most likely change the deck to be less Flip monster focused, and moreso goodstuff cards/engines with 1-2 Flip archetypes to combo with, examples being Mekk-Knights with Subterrors, Despia Dolls, or Ghostrick Tindangle.

How did your tournament experience go? Any notable moments?

Honestly, I just kinda had fun lmao. The only unfun times were vs Plants in Top 4, and my first time vs FloowanderOverYonder. Both of these matchups were basically unplayable for me, but I did manage to win vs Temedun, who ended up taking the title of Champ, so I guess we've established a strange Weapon Triangle?

What about the upcoming format are you most excited for?

So much stuff. Like, with just Grand Creators and Battles of Chaos, there are so many new and interesting archetypes and decks to try out, as well as new support to tinker with! P.U.N.K., Icejade, Dinomorphia, Vampires, Dream Mirror, Myutants, Simorgh, S-Force, the list just goes on and on. I'm personally excited for S-Force, since I've been messing with them since they first got released. Overall, just excited for some stuff to change up the current meta, especially with the most recent banlist nerfing most of the top decks (RIP Unchained x Plunder).

What made you choose this deck for the tournament? What were your tech choices?

I chose Floowandereeze because frankly the deck is broken with Eglen, enabling all of your plays. Empen + Backrow is an FTK most of the time. One tech I ran was Forbidden Lance over a piece of backrow hate, as it makes it so you don’t have to take the 50/50 with backrow to get your plays through.

Would you make any changes to the deck?

I think if I had to make any choices, I would cut the second Eglen for the third Robina, and replace the Jack-In-The-Hand with an Upstart Goblin. Besides that, the deck seems pretty solved, unless you want to run some sort of Winged-Beast pile deck.

How did your tournament experience go? Any notable moments?

I went undefeated in swiss, many a complaint put in the tournament chat, only to lose the die roll in top 4 and brick 2/3 games. Swiss curse is real, don’t let them tell you it’s not.

What about the upcoming format are you most excited for?

I’m really not sure what I’ll play, and frankly the new format looks a little meh with the Adventurer stuff, Despia/Ecclesia V, and plants, which will probably win the whole thing (made prior to the finals) and have received no hits on the most recent list. I just hope the format becomes less coin flip oriented.
